Just Because.... SUDSOL challenge

I had some time to play with my new toys on Saturday and decided to play along with the SUDSOL challenge. The challenge was to use the Just Believe set and create a card; pretty simple.
For this card I used the new in-colors Pear Pizzazz and Peach Parfait along with the eyelet border punch, Beautiful Wings embosslit, Elegant Lines and Square Lattice embossing folders in my Bigshot. The corners were punched with the ticket corner punch.

Completely out of my comfort zone.....

A few weeks ago I had one of my residents in to see her family physician and I noticed a painting on the wall in the waiting room. It was a distressed/tea stained background and had a red hydrangea on it. I thought it would make a really pretty card but this distressing is not something I do, so I needed to work up to it. LO

I used all SU supplies starting with a Whisper white card base then layers of Chocolate Chip and Cherry Cobbler. The hydrangea image was stamped in Soft Suede classic ink which I then masked and stamped over it with the En Francais back ground stamp in Soft Suede that had been stamped off once. Next I used my blender pen and the Cherry Cobbler Ink to color the flower and then Old Olive for the leaves and flower centers.
It's very pretty in real life.
The whole thing was distressed by using a circular motion with a sponge and Soft Suede ink followed by Chocolate Chip to add depth.
All the layers were sponged as well with Chocolate Chip.
Adding Chocolate Chip Satin ribbon and the sentiment(from the same stamp set) stamped onto whisper white, punched out with a small oval punch and a large Chocolate Chip oval punch, then distressed with Chocolate Chip again, this was placed onto a Cherry Cobbler scalloped circle punch and 2 antique brads were added.


This card is the first one I finished but I found it very dark, I really liked it but the painting was more on the yellow side so I needed to try again.

My next attempt is done basically the same but the colors I used this time are More Mustard for the distressing and the En Francais background. Chocolate Chip for the Hydrangea and Real Red for the color along with Old Olive for the leaves and flower centers.I used the Real Red satin ribbon and some new Vintage brads for decorations. The sentiment comes from Teeny Tiny Wishes and the punches used are word window, modern label and small oval with a couple more antique brads to finish.


Which is your favorite?
My husband and I are leaning towards the second one as we don't usually go for the dark or vintage looks at all but I have to say I am pleased with them both.

I think the only thing I may do different is to maybe emboss the stamped hydrangea because I find that the ink had a very slight muddy look from the blending.

Going to Regionals in Hamilton!! Yeah!!

Birthday Gift

It's been a long weekend here in New Brunswick and we couldn't have asked for a nicer one, weather wise. Yesterday we went to my husbands aunt's home where she was holding her annual "Pool Party," she has also recently turned 80 years old.

I made this set of cards for her as a thank you/birthday gift. She is a quilter so I felt these would be used well by her. She was pleased with the gift.

Accessories: 1 1/4" square punch, Wide Oval punch, Scallop Oval punch and Modern Label punch, Buttons and ribbon are retired except for the ribbon on the Pumpkin Pie card, this is white satin Ribbon that has been colored with the Peach parfait marker; I tried the pumpkin pie marker but found it way too dark. Topnote die with the bigshot, window sheet and adhesives.

Spirelli Card

I thought I had posted this card long ago but I don't see it on here anywhere so I guess I didn't. :-)

This is created using the Sweet Pea DSP from the Occaisions Mini catalogue that is now retired.
I used the small and medium Spirelli punches that I've had forever and the large scalloped circle from the scallop circle #2 Big Shot die.
The cardstock I used is Chocolate chip, So Saffron and Old Olive. Whisper White for the card base.
The ribbon is a satin chocolate chip that is also retired.
I used regular quilting/sewing thread in a similar color to the old olive and in a metallic copper on the chocolate chip Spirelli flower.
I then put them all together with a 5/8 inch chocolate chip jumbo brad. To finish the Spirelli embellishment I used some left over copper peel off sticker negatives that have been sitting around begging to be used.
Next I used the Tiny Tags stamp set and Chocolate Chip Classic ink to create the tags which were punched out with the Medium Jewelery Tag punch. (These both can be found in the new Idea Book and Catalogue).
They were then attached to the embellishment on the card.

I'm pleased with the card. It is different!

Decor Elements Fun

I can't believe that it has been so long since I have posted....I apologize to all who have checked in and there was nothing new. We were away on our awesome Alaskan Cruise tour for the rest of June and first of July and then I have been trying to catch up.

I thought I would share the pictures of my grand daughter's room that she and I had fun with. These Stampin'Up Decor Elements called Ginormous Flowers are retired but they look great on her walls. I had purchased them for her and sent them to her earlier in the year but her mother was a bit intimidated by them so we put them on the walls while we were there in July on out way home from Alaska. I was amazed at how easy they went onto the walls.

Travel Memory Keeper

We are soon off on an Alaskan Cruise Tour with friends. There will be 4 couples so it should be a good time.
I made these travel Journal/Memory Keepers for each couple to keep note and to journal about each day we are away.
I used Kraft/Crumb Cake Cardstock as the base and embellished them with Pumpkin Pie and Night of Navy card stock, the new Travel Journal DSP and Sentimental Journey stamp set both of which are found in the Summer Mini catalogue.
I made a belly band with the Scallop Trim border punch which will be available July 1st when the new catalogue goes live and found pens at the dollar store that I embellished with some DSP as well.
Inside are cards where the date and place can be noted and then space to journal about the place or events of the day.

I was really pleased with these and the recipients were as well.

Another Scrapbook in a box

I love this technique!

This time I used Cameo Coral ink and cardstock. The DSP inside is retired but then Cameo Coral is soon to be as well.

I've shown pictures inserted into this one; which I did by using a corner photo punch that I had in hand. This makes it easy to change them out when ever you need/want to.

It's hip to be square!

I have finally manged to get back to my blog......it's been one of those weeks! again. I seem to have alot of those lately, either I'm really busy or much less organized than I used to be.....hmm I wonder what it is?

This is the title of the posting on Leeann Greff's blog where I cased this card from.

I had to do a punched card for a swap and loved the simplicity of this card so I changed up the colors and cased it. I used Pink Pirouette and Melon Mambo for the pinks and Tempting Turquoise and Brilliant Blue for the blues.

The Scallop Trim Border Punch 1/4 inch Whisper White Gross Grain ribbon and the Circle Ice Rhinestone brads as well as a blue button from the Playground Collection.
The sentiment is from the Hello Stamp set.

The flowers are 3/4 inch squares that have been rounded on opposite corners.

Mother's Day Cards

Traditionally we have a Mother's Day BBQ and have both sides of the family come for supper, and inevitably it rains or even snows. This year both our mothers are away for this day so it'll be a quiet day for us. I made these cards to send with the mothers and for the other mothers in our family.

These cards are all totally cased from several other demos and on-line blogs that I follow.

I used Rich Razzleberry Classic Ink, Cards Stock and Polka Dotted Ribbon along with DSP from the Cottage Wall Collection. The image from Messages for Mom was stamped on Whisper White. I then attached a flower and half pearl from the pretties kit.









This card was cased from Carl Bazhenow's blog found here: www.carlascraps.com
The same image as above was used and then colored with inks and the blender pen. Layers were made from Shades of Spring DSP, Pretty in Pink and Melon Mambo, the edge was punched with the Scallop Trim Border punch. I used the small rhinestone brads found in the pretties kit to finish it off.

I love the new satin ribbons, the purple one is one I had in my stash but it matches the Shades of Spring DSP perfectly). The sentiment is from Well Scripted set.

Scrapbook in a Box

I watched this video tutorial on You-tube showing how to make a Magnolia Flower from the Stampin'Up Ornament punch:

......and decided to try it out. I used Whisper White cardstock and Pink Pirouette Classic Ink for the flower and I sponged the punches on both sides; otherwise I followed her directions in the video. I was so pleased with the results that I had to put it on something and decided to make a box.

The box is just a 12x12 piece of Pink Pirouette cardstock that is scored at 4" and 8" on two sides, you then cut one score line to the 4" score line on each side of the paper9 make sure it is the same line on each side)
You then fold the box up staggering the sides to create the box.
When opened up the box is actually a scrapbook with 9 sections that are 4x4 to use for journaling and/or pictures.
The sides of the box are decorated with the Bridal DSP that has been colored with Pink Pirouette Classic ink by rubbing the pad over the paper until evenly colored. It's beautiful in real life.
I made the top by taking a piece of Pink Pirouette C/S that measured 10 and 1/8th inches square. I then scored it at 1.5 and 3 inches on all sides then cut and scored as usual for any box top. This one has reinforced sides on it for stability.


I'm on a roll......This next box I created is for my sister whose first grandchild.....Lily was born in February. I decided there had to be a way to make a 3D Lily so I spent the afternoon playing and this is what I came up with. I used Certainly Celery CS and the Bridal DSP again with Classic ink to decorate the sides.
The lilies were created by taking a 2"x8.5" pieces of Whisper White CS; scored and folded at 1" , this I put about one third to half way into the large oval punch, fold to the center of the punch to get a narrow oval with points on the ends. You need 6 for each lily.


I then sponged each fold/score line with Certainly Celery Classic Ink then opened and folded the other way and repeated. I sponged one end of each petal with some Certainly Celery and also a bit of So Saffron Ink to give depth to the center of the flowers.

Next I took one petal and glued an other one to it oneach side of the fold line joining it at the bottom,(it looks like a fan) repeat this again with the other 3 petals. These are 2 halve of the lily, set aside to dry.

For the stamens I used slivers of Certainly Celery CS and So Saffron CS. Fold the yellow CS, 1"slivers in two and glue then fold in half again and glue this to the end of the green sliver(2-3") sandwiching it with the yellow folded over. You need 5 slivers with yellow . Punch out a 1/4" circle and sponge it with Certainly Celery,fold over a the end of a green sliver and glue the circle to it. I then lightly pinched the circle to give it a 3D effect. You could also use an embossing tool to make it 3D as well.

Now to put the lily together I pinched the folds in the petals so the two halves of the flower were easy to fit inside each other and glued these together at the bottom and at the same time putting the stamen slivers into the center of the flower so the ends protrude from the flower like a stem and the stamens are in the center of the flower.
Set aside and let dry well.

When dry use a bone folder or round handled tool or pencil to shape the petals so that the flower is more realistic.

Place them on the top of the box or where ever you want a lily to be.

One layer, Clean and Simple

It's very impressive in real life. I used Whisper White card stock, Orchid Opulence classic ink, the scallop trim border punch and the "With All My Heart" stamp set.

Last of Easter....finally!

Here are the last of the Easter items I created this year. I think this is a shortened version on the fancy favor box that I used the Eyelet Border Punch on for the edges of the box and handle and the DSP trim, Tea Party. I needed something to make a quick simple basket for treats, it was very effective and doesn't need to be used only for Easter could be for any special treat.



This next basket is from the Big Shot Die, Baskets and Blooms, I used an Embossing folderon it before putting together, to give it some texture and then embellished it with a punched bunny on
the front and back so you can see him coming and going. He is a compilation of several bunnies I have seen over the season this year. I stamped a tag from the Eggcoutrements set and tied it on with linen thread after putting an eyelet in it. I also used a sparkly brad for his tail for lack of a pom-pom.
